Dr. Dan Werb, Executive Director

Dan Werb, PhD is an epidemiologist and policy analyst working at the intersection of addictions, drug policy, and HIV. Beyond his work as Director of the ICSDP, Dr. Werb is a Visiting Scholar in the Division of Global Public Health at the University of California, San Diego where he is co-investigator on the Proyecto El Cuete study, which evaluates the implementation of drug policy reforms in Tijuana, Mexico, and their impact on access to addiction treatment and HIV risk behaviours among people who inject drugs. Dr. Werb is also an Affiliate Scientist at the Centre for Research on Inner City Health (CRICH) at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. His research interests include the prevention of injection drug use initiation, identifying determinants of illicit drug market participation, the effect of drug law enforcement on public health, global drug supply reduction, discretionary policing, and drug market violence. Dr. Werb is a 2012 Trudeau Foundation Scholar, a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Postdoctoral Fellow, and the winner of a 2014 National Magazine Award in Canada for his general interest writing on addiction.

Nazlee Maghsoudi, Knowledge Translation Manager 

Nazlee Maghsoudi is the Knowledge Translation Manager at the ICSDP. Her enthusiasm for drug policy reform has led her to advocate at the grassroots, national, and international levels. Nazlee is also a Strategic Advisor Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy (CSSDP), and an Outreach Volunteer at TRIP! Project, a nightlife harm reduction program in Toronto. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University and a Master of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Evan Wood, Scientific Advisor

Evan Wood, MD, PhD, ABIM, FRCPC, is Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and an attending physician on the Clinical Teaching Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital, where he is also the co-Director of the Urban Health Research Initiative. Dr. Wood is a general internal medicine specialist and diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine whose clinical, research and educational focus has been on improving systems of care for patients with alcohol and drug addiction. Dr. Wood is the Medical Director for Addiction Services at Vancouver Coastal Health and was the Founding Director of the St. Paul’s Hospital Goldcorp Fellowship in Addiction Medicine, Western Canada’s only American Board of Addiction Medicine accredited training program for addiction medicine physicians. He is also the Principal Investigator and Director of the Canada Addiction Medicine Research Fellowship, a US National Institute on Drug Abuse funded research training program for physicians with a background in addiction medicine based out of UBC and St. Paul’s.
