Adeeba Kamarulzaman, MBBS, FRACP  Professor and Head of Infectious Diseases

Dr. Kamarulzaman is Professor and Head of Infectious Diseases at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, where she oversees a tertiary referral centre for HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases. In 2008 she established an HIV research centre (CERiA) at the University of Malaya. Her main research interests include the epidemiology of HIV among injecting drug users and HIV prevention and treatment among prisoners and drug users in resource-limited setting. In addition to her clinical and academic commitments, she has been actively involved in the community response to HIV/AIDS in Malaysia as President of the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC), an umbrella organization for HIV/AIDS NGOs. At MAC she is involved in advocacy and oversees the implementation of HIV prevention, treatment and care programs, particularly focusing on marginalized communities. She is a member of several regional and international committees, including TREAT Asia and the OSI International Harm Reduction Development Program. She is also a member of the United Nations Regional Task Force on HIV Prevention Amongst Drug Users and the UN Reference Group on HIV and Injecting Drug Use.
